Photographing Babies, Children, and Families in Nashville
As your family grows together you should document the milestones. I have clients who have been hiring me yearly from shortly after I photographed their weddings until their kids were teenagers. Each stage is unique and worthy of photos. Once a baby is 3 months old they can usually hold their heads up while on their bellies, at 6 months they can usually sit, at 9 months you can often get them to stand supported by furniture or while holding your hands and by a year old they may be well on their way to running around your house. My mom always tells me that I was running at 9 months and at 3 years old I used a scissors to break my little brother out of his mesh playpen but I digress. My point is things change fast.
My approach to documenting families has included sessions at their households while the family is cooking dinner and picnicking on the back porch and sessions where we take the kids to the zoo to photograph them climbing the jungle gym and pointing at giraffes and petting kangaroos. We can plan a hike at a State Park or simply meet in a city park for some portraits but if we can make it fun for the kids it will reflect in the photos.
